APOLIPOPROTEIN A (APOA)

Apolipoprotein A (ApoA) is a protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the "good" cholesterol, that plays a crucial role in removing cholesterol from the body. It is primarily composed of two sub-proteins: ApoA-I and ApoA-II. ApoA-I is particularly important for activating lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT), an enzyme that helps in the formation of HDL and its ability to transport cholesterol.
