Chikungunya Virus Antibody, IgM is a serological blood test used to identify recent infection with the Chikungunya virus, a mosquito-borne viral illness. IgM antibodies usually appear 4–7 days after symptom onset and indicate a current or recent infection. This test is especially useful in patients presenting with sudden high fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain, headache, rash, and fatigue. It is commonly ordered during outbreaks or when differentiating Chikungunya from dengue, Zika, or other febrile illnesses. Results should be interpreted along with clinical findings and, when required, paired with IgG or PCR testing.
