TTG- IgA (Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Antibody)

The TTG-IgA (Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Antibody) test is a highly sensitive and specific blood test used for the screening and diagnosis of celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten intake.

In individuals with celiac disease, ingestion of gluten leads to an immune response against tissue transglutaminase, an enzyme involved in intestinal repair. This results in the production of TTG-IgA antibodies, which damage the intestinal lining and impair nutrient absorption. Elevated TTG-IgA levels strongly suggest active celiac disease, especially when the patient is on a gluten-containing diet. This test is often used as a first-line screening tool and may be followed by intestinal biopsy for confirmation.
