Cardiolipin Antibodies – IgM are autoantibodies directed against cardiolipin, a phospholipid component of cell membranes. This test is used in the evaluation of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), a disorder characterized by abnormal blood clotting, recurrent pregnancy loss, and thrombocytopenia. IgM cardiolipin antibodies may be seen in early or acute immune responses and can be transient in some infections or inflammatory conditions. For definitive diagnosis of APS, results must be interpreted along with IgG/IgA cardiolipin antibodies, lupus anticoagulant testing, clinical history, and repeat testing after 12 weeks.
