Lipase

Lipase is a digestive enzyme primarily produced by the pancreas that helps break down dietary fats. The Lipase blood test measures enzyme levels to evaluate pancreatic health. Elevated lipase levels are most commonly associated with acute pancreatitis and may also be seen in chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic injury, gallbladder disease, or kidney disorders. Low lipase levels may indicate pancreatic insufficiency or long-standing pancreatic damage. This test is commonly ordered in patients with severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or suspected pancreatic disorders. Lipase testing is often interpreted along with amylase levels and clinical findings for accurate diagnosis and management.
